Class Description
Absolute Beginners:
Students who have never had a lesson.
Suzuki Classes:
Students who have finished "Song of the Wind" from Suzuki Book 1.
Beginning Ensemble:
(An audition will be required to join this class*)
• Should be comfortable playing in 1st position.
• Can play a 1-octave A, D & G scale.
• Can play a 1 minute excerpt of an unaccompanied solo from Book 1 or above, or equivalent to, that demonstrates your ability as a musician.
• Has completed Suzuki Book 1 or 2 or the equivalent.
• Basic sight reading test - Must be able to name the letter names of the notes in 1st position on all 4 strings, be able to tell where they are on your violin and play them on your violin.
• Can count out simple rhythms.
• Can play your violin using single fingering.
Paradise Youth Symphony Orchestra (PYSO):
(An audition will be required to join this class*)
• Must be able to play these 2-octave major scales: A, B flat major, C, D, F major and G.
• Can play a 2-3 minute excerpt of an unaccompanied solo from Book 3 or above, or equivalent to, that demonstrates your ability as a musician.
• Can play in 1st and 3rd positions.
• Has completed Suzuki Book 3 or its equivalent.
• Sight reading test - Must be able to name the letter names of the notes in 1st and 3rd position rather quickly, and be able to tell where they are on your violin and play them on your violin.
• Can tell what key you are playing in.
• Can count out complicated rhythms.
• Can play your violin using single fingering.
• Can tune your own instrument.
* Audition exceptions: Audition requirements were designed for students who started playing an instrument in the Strings in Schools program.
If your student has played another instrument prior to joining our program, they may be eligible to enroll in the Beginning Ensemble or the
Paradise Youth Symphony Orchestra at the discretion of the Director.
   
Length of all classes (except PYSO):
1 hour - 2 times per week
Length of PYSO class:
1.5 hours - 1 time per week
   
Tuition per year per class:
$270
Violin rental fee per year (if applicable):
$50
   
Additional costs for required items that you may need: Shoulder rests - less than $20; Books with accompanying CD's
- $17 - $35; Strings in Schools t-shirts - approx. $20, depending on whether or not the t-shirt is ordered by itself or
in combination with other student's t-shirts.

Personal checks are accepted for payment. Installment payments are due: 9/4/12, 12/4/12, 3/4/13.
Payments over 10 days late will incur a $5 late fee.
 
     
Available Tuition Discounts:  
$135 tuition discount per student who only attends the Beginning Ensemble or the Suzuki General Group class
and has a private teacher (only applies to students who have been accepted into either of these classes).

Scholarships:  
Students who are interested in joining the Strings in Schools' program, but are unable to afford the tuition due to
financial limitations, may apply for a scholarship. Please click here to view our Scholarship Application.
 
 
Refund Policy:  
Pro-rated tuition refunds may be given if there are extenuating circumstances requiring withdrawal from class.
All refunds will be considered on an individual basis. A $10 processing fee is non-refundable.
